Christiane Saenger is a visual artist living and working in Vienna.
Born in Paris, France to German parents, she grew up in the US and various African countries.
Profoundly moved by their powerful landscapes, she developed a passion for nature and wildlife - watching up close and reflecting on the eternal cycle of life and death.
Her artistic journey is deeply rooted in oil painting, a medium that grants her the freedom to express emotions in a sensual and poetic way.
Christiane Saenger’s work is best described as an exploration of various landscapes, searching for our connectivity in nature, and presenting the landscape as a setting for stories of memory and the passage of time - as a map of inner thoughts and personal history.
a personal note:
My devotion to the arts began in Kenya - age 10 to 15 - with my first painting lessons.
A British art teacher inspired me greatly with his love for landscape painting.
His tradition of “elevenses” became a cherished ritual till this day, meditating on nature and drinking Earl Grey tea!
My fascination for the rhythm of life and death deepend during my time in Niger - age 19 - 23 -
during several excursion to the Sahara desert.
This experience had a tremendous impact on my creative process and left it‘s mark on me!
The desert has many faces: desolation, barrenness...and yet a majestic and spiritual beauty.
It’s nature is ambiguous: simultaneously threatening and overwhelming.
Life and death are side by side.
Since 2021 my focus has shifted to the Vienna Woods,
where trees and their surrounding became - and still is - the heart of my creative adventure -
exploring the cycle of bloom and decay.
